Canadian authorities want information on their country's taxpayers who have UBS accounts. The representatives said Wednesday in Toronto, Canadian Agency for revenue (ARC) in a meeting with representatives of the major Swiss bank.

"The ARC has highlighted the need to obtain the required information," he indicated his spokeswoman Caitlin Workman Swiss news agency ATS. The spokesman pointed out that the Canadian government will now examine the results of this meeting to decide whether to hold additional meetings.

The Workman also said that the meeting allowed both sides to better understand the complexity of the situation, in particular, "the various legal provisions relating to tax treaties."

Meanwhile, a spokesman for UBS declined to comment on the information provided by Arch.

The meeting was announced a week ago from Ottawa. A few days before the Canadian Minister Jean-Pierre Blackburn taxes had indicated that if UBS refused to cooperate, the Canadian government adirebbe legal action to obtain the information.
